The mission of the Office of Environmental Affairs, Environmental Policy Unit is to protect the environment, conserve natural resources and support an environmentally literate citizenry that is inspired with a sense of personal commitment to a sustainable environment. The Policy Unit takes a leadership role in the development of state and regional policy on the environment. The Policy Development Unit:

  • drafts new environmental policies and resolutions
  • provides environmental comments on development cases
  • actively participates in zoning and land use planning
  • reviews Environmental Impact Reports and Assessments
  • conducts public meetings and workshops with community associations on environmental issues
  • proactively responds to Commissioners' and citizens' concerns related to environmental issues in their specific communities
